The incredibly talented Xio Axelrod poses this week’s challenge:

Festive Stocking Filled with Candycanes and Gingerbread Man

Readers always ask “How much of yourself do you lend to your characters?” Here’s your chance to answer. What traits do your characters have that come from you? And if not you, someone in your life.

It’s been said that writers write best what they know. So each of my heroines has some of my characteristics. For example, Dariana is headstrong and I am sure that is one of my qualities. My husband might call that stubbornness, but I would rather think of it as determination.

Kennedy has a definite sense of justice.

Marilee is inventive and Hannah can adapt. Bryce,,,well, Bryce is still a work in progress. As am I…every day.

Each of my female characters has either qualities I possess or would like to. They are put into all kinds of situations, some of which I have never faced. I hope that, if I was in those circumstances, I would do as well.

As for my heroes…they exhibit characteristics that I want in a man. They are honorable, handsome and strong. And they love the heroines with everything in them. And, in the final analysis, isn’t that what counts? Love above all else? Even when, in the case of Rowland, in my WIP, the hero starts out as less than he should be, he rises to a higher level because of love.

Okay, I admit it…when I have to kill off villains, they might resemble people I don’t exactly admire in my real life. Thank heavens you can’t go to jail for murdering imaginary people.

Let’s see what the wonderful Brenda Margriet instills in her characters….http://www.brendamargriet.com/blog

Perfect – you are so diplomatic about about the characteristics that make you end a villain. I love all those other qualities about you though.

    1. You are so sweet to me!

  2. Haha! I want a t-shirt that says “don’t piss me off, I may kill you in my next novel.” Great post!
