This week’s topic is courtesy of Mishka Jenkins – What would you say your writing strengths and weaknesses are? Eg- dialogue, description, etc.
First, my strengths…I think I can tell a good story. My dialogue comes naturally and my descriptions are strong. Reviewers tell me the scenes in “Texas Summer” are evocative and they can practically taste the dust.

Weaknesses?  Plotting. I plot by the seat of my pants and many times the characters take over and I have to follow their lead. In one of my WIP’s, the hero starts out as a jerk. He just couldn’t help himself and now I have to redeem him.

The best part of my weaknesses…they keep me honest and make me work to improve my writing. If the next book isn’t better than the last, I am doing something wrong.

Let’s see what the talented  J.J. Devine thinks are hers.

  1. Plotting is the bane of my writing existence!

  2. Yep, each book should be an improvement on the last; I absolutely agree. I tend to fix one kind of boo boo from a previous book and end up with another one in the next.

  3. You’re totally right. Being able to know our weaknesses helps to want to improve them! 🙂
