A Day in the Life: What do you do when you’re not writing?
It’s very glamorous…not! I wake up about 5:30 am, walk the dog and drink my coffee while checking my e-mails. Then, I write. I write until I’m done for the day. That could be an hour or it could be five. The nice thing about being at the keyboard is that time no longer has meaning. That is also the dangerous thing. So, if I have an appointment or something that needs to be done, I have to actively check the clock so I don’t lose track of the day. Then, there is the laundry, errands, grocery shopping and making dinner. In between, I have to keep up with blogging and marketing my books. I have to say I love every minute of it! The breaks, doing mundane tasks, actually fuel my creative process. I can go to a store and look at someone and get an idea for a character. Or watch some interaction and get a plot twist.
I do have a dirty little secret. Sometimes, I will just sit down and watch part of an LMN movie or some other TV show. Or read a romance novel. It’s one of the reasons I consider myself so lucky. There are very few jobs where it’s okay to stop working so you can let your mind drift, watch TV or enter someone else’s world. After that interlude, I feel refreshed and ready to sit back down at the keyboard.
Let’s see what the gifted and generous Carrie Elks does in her non-writing time.
Leaving time for your mind to wander is important to a creative person. A daydream a day keeps writer’s block away!
What Veronica said. You have to let your mind wander. I listen to music, read, watch TV. Everything feeds my greedy muse. =)
