1. What is your writing process like?

I begin with an idea.  I am what my critique buddy calls a ‘pantster’, which means  I don’t plot out everything first. I go by the seat of my pants.  I think about the characters and who they are and how they affect each other.  I put myself in their shoes, as much as possible, and determine what the outcome will be in the given situations.  Then, I think of a conflict that will eventually bring them together. So many times, I will think of an addition or alteration and then I have to go back through the manuscript to make sure the change is consistent.

I will be in the shower or wake up in the middle of the night with some inspiration and have to jot it down until I can get back to the computer.  So, I am really ‘all over the place’.  I would say I am undisciplined, except I manage to write at least 2,000 or more words a day.  Virtually every day.

2.  Do you listen to music to enhance your writing?

Personally, I find music distracting because it never seems to suit where I am in the book.  I would love to say I am very highbrow and listen to classical, but it would not be true.

3. What two songs best describe your overall body of work?

The first would be ‘Let It Be’.  Sometimes you just have to say a manuscript is finished and let it go.  Otherwise, you will rewrite it forever and never submit it.

Sometimes, I feel like the publishing and market process is summed up with ‘Satisfaction’ as in “I can’t get no…”
