What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in the name of “researching a book?” Or… What’s the craziest thing you’d like to do to research a book?
If I have to tell the truth here, the craziest thing I’ve ever done for research is…wait for it…Google. I know, not very exciting. Oh, sometimes I do go completely wild and go to the library. I actually spend a great deal of time ‘getting it right’. Example: For the soon-to-be released “Hannah’s War”, which is set in the Civil War, I spent hours and hours to make sure the chronology made sense. I also had to choose locations with enough historical information. For as much as has been documented on the War Between the States, there are still huge gaps regarding some places and events. It took time, but happily I found what I needed.

Now the fun part. What’s the craziest thing I’d like to do? Why, time travel, of course. When you write historical novels, it would be ideal to experience the people and places firsthand. I would just pick a place and a year and pop in for a day or so, maybe more. Then off again to another place and time. H.G. Wells, could I please borrow that machine?
Oh, I would always come back home. It’s nice here and I don’t think I could ever write longhand again.
