This week’s questions come from the inventive and talented Fiona Riplee:

Summer is in full swing and I’d like to know…

  1. Your favorite summer memory.

My favorite memory is riding my horse, Cinnabar. He was an Arabian and a little crazy, but he had a loving heart and always took care of me. We rode miles of trails and, as he loved to run, we raced across endless meadows. I would jump on his back and take flight, one flesh with my horse. It was amazing and I miss him.

  1. What you enjoy the most about summer.

The sun and the heat! There is nothing better than walking out in the morning and hearing the birds and watching that golden orb rise and warm everything. Oh, and of course, the longer days! And my garden, which brings forth gorgeous tomatoes and squash and cucumbers… And…well, everything!

I love it enough to title a book after it.

  1. How the warm days and sunshine affect your writing habits.

Without sunlight, I seem to slog through the days fighting the despair of gray. But, when summer finally comes and the sun fills the corners, ideas spring forth like new flowers. I write more and longer and just shake off all that winter malaise. Love summer!

  1. Sunshine makes writing feel easier for me, too. And while I’ve ridden horses, I’m not a “rider” – love your memories of Cinnabar.
