1. What made you start writing romance as opposed to any other genre of literature?
What is better than discovering love? Of all the genres, this is the most fulfilling. Through my writing, I can travel through time and experience relationships with so many different backdrops in history and find my heart’s desire over and over again. I can face conflict and be rescued or save myself. I can be all the women I ever wanted to be
2. Why do you think romance continues to be a market leading genre?
Life is hard. Romance provides a way to escape from the day to day and broaden our horizons in a way no other genre provides. A woman’s heart can expand to encompass love in so many forms and romance provides a venue we could not encounter any other way.
3. In what way do you see romance today reflecting the way women’s role in society has changed?
In the past, women needed to be more subtle. A woman was considered subservient to men. That has certainly changed and literature reflects that. Now, a woman can be more assertive and direct, rather than being forced to move behind the scenes and be acted upon. Also, there have been new sub-genres, like erotic, becoming more popular and allowing other explorations of our womanhood.
